International Joint Statement on the Disqualification of Agnes Chow’s Candidacy in HK Legislative Council By-Election
就周庭被褫奪香港立法會參選權國際聯合聲明

We strongly denounce the arbitrary, unlawful and unconstitutional decision of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government to bar Agnes Chow Ting from running as a candidate in the Hong Kong Legislative Council by-election on the basis of her political opinion and political affiliation. This decision has violated the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) to which Hong Kong is a signatory. To comply with Article 26 of the Basic Law and Article 21 of the Hong Kong Bill of Rights, the HKSAR Government should immediately restore Agnes Chow Ting’s right and opportunity as a permanent resident to stand for election without unreasonable restrictions. Canadian Coalition on Human Rights in China Letter to PM Justin Trudeau


The open letter, dated Nov 29 and prior to his trip to China, urged him to consider human rights and political prisoners together with trade relationship. A list of political prisoners who are, or have closed ties with, Canadian citizens was included for the PM. The letter was prepared by Amnesty International Canada which, as well as TADC, are two of the 15 organizations that make up the coalition. (more…)

Open letter to Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affaris, on the release of LIU Xia

Dora Nipp’s Speech at the Candlelight Vigil for Liu Xiabo

On behalf of the Toronto Association for Democracy in China, we join the world in mourning the death of Liu Xiao Bo.

And we join the world in condemning the Chinese government.

For China is shown once again that it is weak and cowardly – so fearful of this soft-spoken man of words and reason that the Chinese regime locked up its nation’s first Nobel Peace Laureate. Despite its swagger, China has a fragile ego. It could not handle the world’s respect; abide by international recognition; or live up to the expectation of transforming itself into a true world leader. 一生致力於中國民主自由事業丶2010年諾貝爾和平獎得主劉䁱波先生於2017年7月13日在醫院受監視治療中不幸與世長辭，享年六十一歲。一座為自由不懈奮鬥的豐碑巍然屹立。

港加聯丶多倫多民運會及中國民主陣線將於當天晚上七時在多倫多市St. George Street 240號中領館前聯合舉行劉曉波燭光悼念會。敬請穿黑衣出席，也請把這訊息廣傳開去。
