  • She’s In Jail

A barrister and a woman human rights defender, Chow Hang Tung represented other activists and protesters in both mainland China and Hong Kong. Chow was also the organizer of the annual candlelight vigil for Tiananmen Massacre. Chow ended up being jailed herself. She was charged with inciting subversion, facing potentially 10 years of imprisonment.

Filming an arrested human rights lawyer Chow Hang Tung under Hong Kong’s National Security Law, this documentary partly portrays a sharp decline in the rule of law in society. It also delves into Chow’s unwavering belief that fundamentally, the law should protect citizens.

In this documentary, the directors examined courage. This documentary explores facets of courage, including the resilience to face imprisonment, the departure of love, and a strong will to remain an optimist. The courage of the main character Chow Hang Tung is driven by moral obligation and determination to protect human rights amidst a transitioning society from democratic governance to authoritarian governance.

The documentary has Chinese and English subtitles.
