The Toronto Association for Democracy in China (TADC) announced today (Dec 22, 2020) the establishment of the TADC Hong Kong Humanitarian Fund.

The Toronto Association for Democracy in China (TADC) announced today the establishment of the TADC Hong Kong Humanitarian Fund.
The mission of the fund is to provide humanitarian assistance to people who fled or left Hong Kong in the aftermath of the police crackdowns and political persecution during the 2019 protests over a proposed extradition bill; and subsequent imposition of the draconian National Security Law on July 1, 2020.
The initial scope of the fund will be to provide assistance to those who have arrived, or are arriving, in Ontario. These are predominantly underaged and young protesters who fled Hong Kong to escape persecution at home.
“We have provided humanitarian support to more than 100 pro-democracy dissidents who fled China after Tiananmen in 1989,” said Winnie Ng, the association’s chair. “Now, we must do the same for young Hong Kong activists who are in exile.”
Toronto Association for Democracy in China (TADC) is a community-based NGO founded in May 1989 as part of the global support for student-led pro-democracy protests in Tiananmen Square. For the past 31 years, the association has held up its motto “Never Forget Tiananmen Massacre” in its mission to advocate for human rights in China.
Recent indiscriminate police arrests, groundless prosecutions, as well as rampant disqualification of democratically elected legislators have all contributed to an atmosphere of white terror in Hong Kong —all in the name of protecting national security.
“The human rights situation in Hong Kong has descended to a new low,” said Avvy Go of the Chinese & Southeast Asian Legal Clinic and a board member of TADC. “The people who fear for their safety and have no choice but to flee overseas will benefit from this fund.”
The humanitarian fund is designed to help ease the settlement of those who fled Hong Kong. Donations are accepted via:
- e-Transfer (Canada only): [email protected]
- PayPal (world-wide): [email protected]
- Cheque or Money Order payable to “Toronto Association for Democracy in China”
Mail to: TADC, PO Box 90594, Cedar Heights, Scarborough, Ontario M1H 3G7
