Toronto Association for Democracy in China (TADC) broke the news about a report published on January 22 in Ming Pao, a Chinese language newspaper in Toronto, quoting Paul Chiang as a sitting MP, suggesting people to turn Joe Tay in to the Chinese Consulate to claim the HK$1M bounty on Joe’s head. TADC first posted it to social media on 3/26, then released it to the mainstream media on 3/28, with the sole purpose to expose the Canadian public to this blatant “two in one” act of foreign interference and transnational repression that has been hidden behind the language firewall. This is similar to the defeat of incumbent Kenny Chiu in the 2021 federal election with Chinese language WeChat posts littered with mis- and dis-information.
TADC stands to uphold justice, human rights and democracy, and is non-partisan. The revelation was widely published in media across the country, forcing Chiang to issue an apology statement, CPC and NDP calling Chiang to step down, LPC defending Chiang’s comment as a “teachable moment”, to two separate joint statements by various human rights and Hong Kong diaspora organizations condemning Chiang, RCMP starting an investigation to eventually Chiang dropping out of re-election. 多倫多支持中國民運會披露中文媒體多倫多《明報》於1月22曰刊登的一篇報導，引述時任國會議員蔣震宇建議把鄭敬基交給中國領事館以領取 100 萬港元的通緝懸賞。本會於 3 月 26 日首先將此消息發佈到社交媒體，然後在 3 月 28 日發佈到各大主流傳媒，唯一目的在於把這一宗明顯集外國干涉和跨國鎮壓於一身、卻隱藏在語言隔膜後面的個案，揭露給加拿大公眾知道。這與 2021 年聯邦大選中『微信』的中文貼文充斥著虛假和錯誤訊息引致趙錦榮競選連任失敗相類似。
本會致力維護正義、人權和民主，並無黨派立埸。揭露的消息得到本國各傳媒廣泛報導，迫得蔣震宇發出道歉聲明，保守黨及新民主黨要求蔣退選而自由黨以一個「教訓」替蔣䕶航，多個人權團體及香港流散社羣發出分别兩封聯署信作出譴責，加拿大皇家騎警展開調查，最終蔣震宇退出參選連任。因本會披露而觸發出來的連串反應，充分體現了社會共識和民主力量。
